My friends always told me that I looked good and that I dressed well, so I thought I wasn’t that big. My husband use to say that if I was obese, he would divorce me and I jokingly said; that will never happen to me and if I ever got to 100kgs I would do something about it, not realising that, that was where I was headed. I was having trouble with my knees because of the extra weight I was carrying and I knew that arthritis runs in our family. I was living on antacids for my chronic indigestion. Stress is a big factor of my weight gain. I chose food as my comfort, I ate when I was sad and I ate when I mad. I had inquired about Jenny Craig in the March of 2013 after seeing photos of myself at my son’s engagement, but I thought I could do this on my own, I’d lost weight plenty of times before, but every time I fell off the wagon I put what I lost plus 5 kilos more.

I remember the day my Jenny Craig consultant Helena rang me to check and see how I was doing. I had just come back from a holiday and I felt so sluggish and even embarrassed when I couldn’t fit comfortably in the airplane seat, I burst into tears on the phone to her and that’s when I realised I had to do something if I wanted to be around for a long time, enjoy a healthier lifestyle and my beautiful grandchildren. We made an appointment to meet and she became my new best friend.

It took me 7 months to get to my goal weight of 72 kgs, slow and steady at first. Jenny taught me to appreciate food and to not beat myself up every time I slipped up and had a bad day, so long as I got back on track for the next meal. That I could eat anything, but in moderation. From the start I allowed myself a treat (one free meal) as I called it where I would dine out or have takeaway or have that piece of cake and enjoy it too. Jenny also taught me about portion size. I never ate so much, until I joined Jenny Craig. They taught me to not let myself get hungry and to eat six small meals a day and I still lost weight.

It was the weekly visits and weigh-ins with my consultant that encouraged me to keep going, even when I had my bad days. I now don’t tum to chocolate and desserts when I’m stressed. The support from Helena, Sue and Sally were to say the least, amazing. They encouraged me to keep going and that I could do it.

It’s been nearly 3 years now and I have kept to my goal weight give or take a few kilos.

Now I love shopping for clothes and I love that I can go into a lingerie shop and actually buy something sexy and it looks good on me. My husband loves it too. I bought myself a decent treadmill and a Fitbit, which keeps me on track for my fitness and I exercise and walk regularly even getting my husband to join me when he can. This year I joined a gym, I look forward to my weekly sessions with my Personal Trainer Jess and I have become fitter, stronger and much more healthier thanks to Jenny Craig. My husband promised to take me overseas if I could lose the weight and in February 2014, one month after reaching my goal, we went to Los Angeles and Las Vegas. I even fitted comfortably into the airplane seat. I got a tattoo to remind of how far I have come, my new motto in life and my new tattoo says, “Live the Life you Love & Love the Life you Live.”
