In Clair’s words…
I have been on a diet since I can remember and yet have spent most of my adult life overweight or obese. Somewhere between barely enough calories to get out of bed and not even looking sideways at a carbohydrate, I found myself pregnant. This marked the beginning of a 30 kilo weight gain. A few months after my daughter was born I was back on the bandwagon but with fewer results over greater time and I was struggling with a huge wane in energy. It took a couple of years to lose half the baby weight when I fell pregnant again.
I gained all of my weight back and then some. The twist in this story was finding out that I had gestational diabetes. With a diagnosis like this, it is almost certainly a prelude to developing type 2 diabetes in the ensuing years. Even though after the birth of my son I was all clear, my only fighting chance at keeping the disease at bay was to lose a significant amount of weight.
So here I am, a HUGE amount of weight to lose, a looming diagnosis and no clue as to where to begin. My mother had recently joined the Jenny Craig program and was getting significantly smaller. After trying a little longer and a little harder, I gave up and called Jenny.
I have lost 21 kilos and I feel AMAZING!! I was so sceptical during my first week because I had never eaten so much in one day nor was I accustomed to eating pasta or rice… AT NIGHT!!! It was an easy adjustment and works perfectly with my lifestyle as I run around after two little ones. Literally run. I am still free and clear of diabetes and am confident that will be the case for year and years to come. I look forward to being at my goal by Christmas.
Like lots of mums, Clair put on weight during her pregnancies and struggled to get it off. She developed gestational diabetes and was scared of it developing into Type 2 diabetes if she didn’t return to a healthy weight.
