Gut health & fermented foods

Eating to improve gut health, constipation or bloating is a growing trend in the food world. And this interest will continue to grow as further research develops around the gut microbiome. The gut is not only a place where food is digested but where billions of bacteria live and play various roles to make sure your body is functioning at its best. Your gut bacteria can help keep you feeling full, assist with mood, and affect how food is digested in your body.

Foods rich in probiotics (good bacteria) and prebiotics (food that feeds the bacteria) are important to maintain good gut health. Fermented foods can play a key role as they are often a source of probiotics (good bacteria) and fibre (a prebiotic that helps feed the bacteria). Some great fermented foods include miso, kimchi, kefir and kombucha. These foods can also be included as part of your Jenny Craig menu, so be sure to tell you Consultant if you’d like to include more foods that can support gut health in your Jenny Craig menu.
