With cooler nights and shorter days it is easy to let your activity slip during winter, but it is the perfect time to get a head start on your summer goals. Here are 5 easy ways to stay active throughout the colder seasons and reach your goals even sooner.

Indoor workouts – this can include an exercise DVD, exercise bike or treadmill, exercises on a Swiss ball, using a resistance band, yoga, Pilates or even walking up and down the stairs. Click here for some great indoor exercise inspiration.

Make the most of your lunch break – taking a quick 15 -30 minute walk on your lunch break can be a great way to recharge your batteries and get some fresh air and vitamin D out of the office.

Get to know your local gym – this can include a variety of strength and cardio training (e.g. Body Pump, step classes or HIIT) as well as yoga and pilates for relaxation.

Seasonal sport activities – have fun trying winter sports like skiing, snowboarding or ice-skating. But don’t forget to enjoy playing indoor sports such as basketball, soccer, netball or indoor rock climbing.

Up your incidental activity – track your steps using a pedometer or fitness tracker and take every opportunity to move more. Park further away from your destination and walk to increase steps, get off one tram stop earlier or take the stairs whenever you can.

Regardless of how you choose to keep active this winter, embrace the cold and make regular exercise a part of your weekly routine.
